SEPTEMBER 11. . . DON’T SEPTEMBER DAYS LIKE THESE make you glad you live in East Tennessee? And isn’t golden honey something that simply belongs to September days? If you have some Tennessee Wren’s honey, then you have it made. And if you don’t, don’t despair! Rabbit Food just received honey from Dennis Barry’s apiary in Rockford ( just over the Blount County line from Seymour). Dennis’s wildflower honey is a multivarietal produced by the hives in Rockford. And then he also has lighter mountain honey from hives he moved to the mountains near Fontana Dam during the sourwood season. Either way, you get local, raw, wonderful hunny!
BUT MAN (AND WOMAN) CAN’T live on honey alone.. . .
ORGANIC PRODUCE WEDNESDAY: avocados, bananas, watermelons, red grapes, beets, romaine, ginger, alfalfa sprouts, sweet potatoes, slicer tomatoes, russet bakers, celery, cherries, lacinatao kale, perfect pears, baby spinach, spring mix.
ORGANIC PRODUCE THURSDAY: grapefruit, red potatoes, green grapes, collards, pineapples, broccoli crowns, carrots,
YOU MAY NOTICE a few items not on the list. One is the Greeneville kale we’ve enjoyed for so long. However, the kale coming in is lacinato, fresh from New England. Mushrooms is another item-gone-AWOL. Hugh said it will be three weeks or so before we have more. In the meantime, though, he has logs plugged with shiitake if you want to grow your own. And he is taking orders for blue oyster kits. If you’re interested, let him know at hugh@brewersmushrooms.com or 423 441-2533.
REMEMBER THERE ARE still other organic produce items in stock, including cabbages, oranges, lemons. I’m told the seedless watermelons of last week were wonderful; don’t miss out this week. We haven’t had collards in a looooong time, so I’m looking forward to new greens. The beets have been outstanding in the last few weeks. No one misses out at Rabbit Food!
THINGS TO ADD TO YOUR Rabbit Food list: hemp seed, Kiss My Face 4oz lotions at a being-discontinued price, safflower oil, sunflower oil, organic coconut oil, Seeds of Change mixes, Amande almond yogurt, raw goat cheese, goat mozzarella, feta, bulk dried organic beans, and more
